Grokkyn

A grokkyn, released under a CC0 license.

A spheroid creature native to the astral plane with a hard, stone-like exterior. Often mistaken for a boulder (especially when sleeping), it eats stone and other fragments of the elemental plane of earth by breaking it up with an energy beam and vacuuming the remains.

  • Stone-like appearance, may be overlooked or mistaken for inanimate boulder.

Knockback

In addition to damage done, target is pushed back a number of feet equal to the grokkyn’s HD.

  • If the knockback distance is 5’ or more, target must make a Dexterity (DEX) check or fall down.
  • If the target is knocked into something, they take an additional 1d10 damage.

Devour

Mouth opens to fire an energy beam at an adjacent target.

  • When beam hits a creature, it is petrified before being devoured.
  • When beam hits rock, it breaks it apart so it can be digested.
    • Target petrified creature or stone object must Save or be turned to rubble and devoured.

Sleeping

When found in the wild, there’s a 50% chance that it’s sleeping.

  • While asleep, -2 to AC and -4 to attempts to identify as anything other than a floating boulder.
